EPISTLE ¤ Galatians 4. 22-31
Lesson from the Epistle of Blessed Paul the Apostle to the Galatians.
[The Epistle tells us of our deliverance through the Sacrament of Baptism or through the Sacrament of Penance by which we are restored to Christian liberty. The two sons of Abraham symbolize the two Testaments: Ishmael, son of Agar, represents the Israelites as slaves to the Mosaic law, whilst Isaac, son of Sarah, represents the Gentiles whose faith makes them heirs to the promise.]

Brethren, It is written that Abraham had two sons: the one by a bondwoman and the other by a free woman. But he who was of the bondwoman was born according to the flesh; but he of the free woman was by promise; which things are said by an allegory. For these are the two testaments. The one from Mount Sinai, engendering unto bondage: which is Agar; for Sinai is a mountain in Arabia, which hath affinity to that Jerusalem which now is, and is in bondage with her children. But that Jerusalem which is above is free, which is our mother. For it is written: Rejoice, thou barren that bearest not: break forth and cry, thou that travailest not: for many are the children of the desolate, more than of her that hath a husband. Now we, brethren, as Isaac was, are the children of promise. But as then he that was born according to the flesh persecuted him that was after the spirit: so also it is now. But what saith the Scripture? Cast out the bondwoman and her son: for the son of the bondwoman shall not be heir with the son of the freewoman. So then, brethren, we are not the children of the bondwoman but of the free: by the freedom wherewith Christ has made us free.

GRADUAL ¤ Ps. 121. 1, 7

Laetatus sum in his, quae dicta sunt mihi: in domum Domini ibimus. V.: Fiat pax in virtute tua: et abundantia in turribus tuis.
I rejoiced at the things that were said to me: we shall go into the house of the Lord. V.: Let peace by in Thy strength: and abundance in Thy towers.

TRACT ¤ Ps. 124. 1-2

They that trust in the Lord shall be as Mount Sion: he shall not be moved for ever that dwelleth in Jerusalem. V.: Mountains are round about it: so the Lord is round about His people, from henceforth now and for ever.

GOSPEL ¤ John 6. 1-15
† Continuation of the holy Gospel according to St. John.
[The Gospel tells us of the miracle of the multiplication of loaves and fishes, symbols of Holy Communion.]

At that time Jesus went over the sea of Galilee, which is that of Tiberias: and a great multitude followed Him, because they saw the miracles which He did on them that were diseased. Jesus therefore went up into a mountain: and there He sat with His disciples. Now the Pasch, the festival day of the Jews, was near at hand. When Jesus therefore had lifted up His eyes, and seen that a very great multitude cometh to Him, He said to Philip: Whence shall we buy bread that these may eat? And this He said to try him: for He Himself knew what He would do. Philip answered Him: Two hundred pennyworth of bread is not sufficient for them, that every one may take a little. One of His disciples, Andrew, the brother of Simon Peter, saith to Him: There is a boy that hath five barley loaves and two fishes; but what are these among so many? Then Jesus said: Make the men sit down. Now there was much grass in the place. The men therefore say down, in number about five thousand. And Jesus took the loaves, and when He had given thanks, He distributed to them that were set down: in like manner also of the fishes, as much as they would. And when they were filled, He said to His disciples: Gather up the fragments that remain, lest they be lost. They gathered up therefore, and filled twelve baskets with the fragments of the five barley loaves which remained over and above to them that had eaten. Now those men, when they had seen what a miracle Jesus had done, said: This is of a truth the Prophet that is to come into the world. Jesus therefore, when He knew that they would come to take Him by force and make Him king, fled again into the mountain, Himself alone.

SECRET.--Look favorably upon these present Sacrifices, we beseech Thee, O Lord, that they may profit us both unto devotion and salvation. Through our Lord Jesus Christ, Thy Son, who liveth and reigneth . . .

EPISTLE ¤ Ephesians 5. 1-9
Lesson from the Epistle of Blessed Paul the Apostle to the Ephesians.
[Let us live as children of the light, performing actions good, just and true.]

Brethren, Be ye followers of God, as most dear children: and walk in love, as Christ also hath loved us and hath delivered Himself for us, an oblation and a sacrifice to God for an odor of sweetness. But fornication, and all uncleanness or covetousness, let it not so much as be named among you, as becometh saints: or obscenity, or foolish talking, or scurrility, which is to no purpose: but rather giving of thanks. For know you this, and undersatnd, that no fornicator, or unclean, or covetous person, which is a serving of idols, hath inheritance in the kingdom of Christ and of God. Let no man deceive you with vain words: for because of these things cometh the anger of God upon the children of unbelief. Be ye not therefore partakers with them. For you were heretofore darkness: but now light in the Lord. Walk then as children of the light: for the fruit of the light is in all goodness, and justice, and truth.

GRADUAL ¤ Ps. 9. 20, 4

Exsurge, Domine, non praevaleat homo: judicenter gentes in conspectu tuo. V.: In convertendo inimicum meum retrorsum, infirmabuntur, et peribunt a facie tua.
Arise, O Lord, and let not man be strengthened; let the Gentiles be judged in Thy sight. V.: When the enemy shall be turned back, they shall be weakened and perish before Thy face.

TRACT ¤ Ps. 122. 1-3

V.: Ecce sicut oculi servorum in manibus dominorum suorum. V.: Et sicut oculi ancillae in manibus dominae suae: ita oculi nostri ad Dominum Deum nostrum donec misereatur nostri. V.: Miserere nobis, Domine, miserere nobis.
To Thee have I lifted up my eyes, who dwellest in heaven. V.: Behold as the eyes of servants are on the hands of their masters. V.: And as the eyes of the handmaid are on the hands of her mistress: so are our eyes unto the Lord our God, until He have mercy on us. V.: Have mercy on us, O Lord, have mercy on us.

GOSPEL ¤ Luke 11. 14-28
† Continuation of the holy Gospel according to St. Luke.
[Our Lord is in open conflict with Satan. He disarms him and expels him from the body of one possessed.]

At that time Jesus was casting out a devil, and the same was dumb. And when He had cast out the devil, the dumb spoke, and the multitudes were in admiration by it. But some of them said: He casteth out devils by Beelzebub, the prince of devils. And others, tempting, asked of Him a sign from heaven. But He, seeing their thoughts, said to them: Every kingdom divided against itself shall be brought to desolation, and house upon house shall fall. And if Satan also be divided against himself, how shall his kingdom stand? because you say that through Beelzebub I cast out devils. Now if I cast out devils by Beelzebub, by whom do your children cast them out? But if I by the finger of God cast out devils; doubtless the kingdom of God is come upon you. When a strong man armed keepeth his court, those things are in peace which he possesseth. But if a stronger than he is come upon him and overcome him, he will take away all his armor wherein he trusted, and will distribute his spoils. He that is not with Me, is against Me: and he that gathereth not with Me scattereth. When the unclean spirit is gone out of a man, he walketh through places without water, seeking rest: and not finding, he saith: I will return into my house whence I came out. And when he is come, he findeth it swept and garnished. Then he goeth and taketh with him seven other spirits more wicked than himself, and entering in they dwell there. And the last state of that man becomes worse than the first. And it came to pass, as He spoke these things, a certain woman from the crowd, lifting up her voice, said to Him: Blessed is the womb that bore Thee, and the paps that gave Thee suck. But He said: Yea, rather, blessed are they that hear the word of God and keep it.

OFFERTORY ¤ Ps. 18. 9-12

Justitiae Domini rectae, laetificantes corda, et judicia ejus dulciora super mel et facum: nam et servus tuus custodit ea.
The justices of the Lord are right, rejoicing hearts, and His judgments are sweeter than honey and the honeycomb: for Thy servant keepeth them.

SECRET.--May this victim, O Lord, we beseech Thee, cleanse away our sins: and sanctify the bodies and minds of Thy servants for the celebration of the sacrifice. Through our Lord Jesus Christ, Thy Son, who liveth and reigneth with Thee in the unity . . .

EPISTLE ¤ I Thess. 4. 1-17
Lesson from the First Epistle of Blessed Paul the Apostle to the Thessalonians.
Lectio Epistolae beati Pauli Apostoli ad Thessalonicenses.
[God our Creator and our Lord "hath not called us unto uncleanness, but unto sanctification, in Christ Jesus our Lord."]

Brethren, We pray and beseech you in the Lord Jesus that, as you have received from us how you ought to walk and to please God, so also you would walk, that you may abound the more. For you know what precepts I have given to you by the Lord Jesus. For this is the will of God, your sanctification: that you should abstain from fornication, that every one of you should know how to possess his vesel in sanctification and honor; not in the passion of lust, like the Gentiles that know not God: and that no man overreach nor circumvent his brother in business: because the Lord is the Avenger of all these things, as we have told you before and have all testified. For God hath not called us unto uncleanness, but unto sanctification: in Christ Jesus our Lord.
GRADUAL ¤ Ps. 24. 17, 18

The troubles of my heart are multiplied: deliver me from my necessities, O Lord. V.: See my abjection and my labor; and forgive me all my sins.

TRACT ¤ Ps. 105. 1-4

Confitemini Domino, quoniam bonus: quoniam in saeculum misericordia eius. V.: Quis loquetur potentias Domini: auditas faciet omnes laudes eius? V.: Beati qui custodiunt iudicium, et faciunt iustitiam in omni tempore. V.: Memento nostri, Domine: in bene placito populi tui: visita nos in salutari tuo.
Give glory to the Lord, for He is good: for his mercy endureth for ever. V.: Who shall declare the powers of the Lord: who shall set forth all His praises? V.: Blessed are they that keep judgment and do justice at all times. V.: Remember us, O Lord, in the favor of Thy people: visit us with Thy salvation.
GOSPEL ¤ Matth. 17. 1-9.
† Continuation of the holy Gospel according to St. Matthew.
† Sequentia sancti Evangelii secundum Matthaeum.
[Transfiguration of Our Lord Jesus Christ on Mount Thabor: manifestation of the divinity of Jesus.]

Levantes autem oculos suos, neminem viderunt, nisi solum Iesum. Et descendentibus illis de monte, praecepit eis Iesus, dicens: Nemini dixeritis visionem, donec Filius hominis a mortuis resurgat.
At that time Jesus took Peter and James, and John his brother, and bringeth them up into a high mountain apart: and He was transfigured before them. And His face did shine as the sun, and His garments became white as snow. And behold there appeared to them Moses and Elias talking with Him. Then Peter answering said to Jesus: Lord, it is good for us to be here: if Thou wilt, let us make here three tabernacles, one for Thee, and one for Moses, and one for Elias. And as he was yet speaking, behold a bright cloud overshadowed them. And lo, a voice out of the cloud, saying: This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased: hear ye Him. And the disciples hearing, fell upon their face and were very much afraid. And Jesus came and touched them, and said to them: Arise, and fear not. And they, lifting up their eyes, saw no one, but only Jesus. And as they came down from the mountain, Jesus charged them, saying: Tell the vision to no man till the Son of Man be risen from the dead.

EPISTLE ¤ Ezechiel 18. 20-28.
Lesson from the Prophet Ezechiel.
Lectio Ezechielis Prophetae.
[The Church reminds sinners by the mouth of Ezechiel that God is ready to forgive them if they repent.]

Thus saith the Lord God: The soul that sinneth, the same shall die: the son shall not bear the iniquity of the father, and the father shall not bear the iniquity of the son: the justice of the just shall be upon him, and the wickedness of the wicked shall be upon him. But if the wicked do penance for all his sins which he hath committed, and keep all my commandments, and do judgment, and justice, living he shall live, and shall not die. I will not remember all his iniquities that he hath done: in his justice which he hath wrought, he shall live. Is it my will that a sinner should die, saith the Lord God, and not that he should be converted from his ways, and live? But if the just man turn himself away from his justice, and do iniquity according to all the abominations which the wicked man useth to work, shall he live? All his justices which he hath done, shall not be remembered: in the prevarication, by which he hath prevaricated, and in his sin, which he hath committed, in them he shall die. And you have said: The way of the Lord is not right. Hear ye, therefore, O house of Israel: Is it my way that is not right, and are not rather your ways perverse? For when the just turneth himself away from his justice, and committeth iniquity, he shall die therein: in the injustice that he hath wrought he shall die. And when the wicked turneth himself away from his wickedness, which he hath wrought, and doeth judgment, and justice: he shall save his soul alive. Because he considereth and turneth away himself from all his iniquities which he hath wrought, he shall surely live, and not die.

† Sequentia sancti Evangelii secundum Ioannem.
[Jesus heals the paralytic: Jesus washes our souls in the waters of Baptism, and when fallen back into sin, in the Sacrament of Penance.]

In his iacebat multitudo magna languentium, caecorum, claudorum, aridorum, exspectantium aquae motum. Is autem qui sanus fuerat effectus, nesciebat quis esset. Iesus enim declinavit a turba constituta in loco.
At that time there was a festival day of the Jews, and Jesus went up to Jerusalem. Now there is at Jerusalem a pond, called Probatica, which in Hebrew is named Bethsaida, having five porches. In these lay a great multitude of sick, of blind, of lame, of withered; waiting for the moving of the water. And an angel of the Lord descended at certain times into the pond; and the water was moved. And he that went down first into the pond after the motion of the water, was made whole, of whatsoever infirmity he lay under. And there was a certain man there, that had been eight and thirty years under his infirmity. Him when Jesus had seen lying, and knew that he had been now a long time, he saith to him: Wilt thou be made whole? The infirm man answered him: Sir, I have no man, when the water is troubled, to put me into the pond. For whilst I am coming, another goeth down before me. Jesus saith to him: Arise, take up thy bed, and walk. And immediately the man was made whole: and he took up his bed, and walked. And it was the sabbath that day. The Jews therefore said to him that was healed: It is the sabbath; it is not lawful for thee to take up thy bed. He answered them: He that made me whole, he said to me, Take up thy bed, and walk. They asked him therefore: Who is that man who said to thee, Take up thy bed, and walk? But he who was healed, knew not who it was; for Jesus went aside from the multitude standing in the place. Afterwards, Jesus findeth him in the temple, and saith to him: Behold thou art made whole: sin no more, lest some worse thing happen to thee. The man went his way, and told the Jews, that it was Jesus who had made him whole.

EPISTLE ¤ Ezechiel 18. 1-9.
Lesson from the Prophet Ezechiel.
Lectio Ezechielis Prophetae.
[If we will reject the evil deeds of our life and practice perfectly the Christian law of penance and charity, God will give us His grace and everlasting reward.]

In those days, the word of the Lord came to me, saying: What is the meaning that you use among you this parable as a proverb in the land of Israel, saying: The fathers have eaten sour grapes, and the teeth of the children are set on edge. As I live, saith the Lord God, this parable shall be no more to you a proverb in Israel. Behold all souls are mine: as the soul of the father, so also the soul of the son is mine: the soul that sinneth, the same shall die. And if a man be just, and do judgment and justice, and hath not eaten upon the mountains, nor lifted up his eyes to the idols of the house of Israel: and hath not defiled his neighbour's wife, nor come near to a menstruous woman: and hath not wronged any man: but hath restored the pledge to the debtor, hath taken nothing away by violence: hath given his bread to the hungry, and hath covered the naked with a garment: hath not lent upon usury, nor taken any increase: hath withdrawn his hand from iniquity, and hath executed true judgment between man and man: hath walked in my commandments, and kept my judgments, to do truth: he is just, he shall surely live, saith the Lord God.
GRADUAL ¤ Ps. 16. 8, 2.

Custodi me Domine ut pupillam oculi: sub umbra alarum tuarum protege me. V.: De vultu tuo iudicium meum prodeat: oculi tui videant aequitatem.
Keep me, O Lord, as the apple of Thine eye: protect me under the shadow of Thy wings. V.: Let my judgement come forth from Thy countenance: let Thine eyes behond the things that are equitable.

GOSPEL ¤ Matthew 15. 21-28.
† Continuation of the holy Gospel according to St. Matthew.
† Sequentia sancti Evangelii secundum Matthaeum.
[If we practice the Christian law of penance and charity, our prayer will be granted as was that of the woman who belonged to the accursed race of Canaan, but whose faith was great.]

In illo tempore: egressus inde Iesus secessit in partes Tyri et Sidonis. Et ecce mulier Chananaea a finibus illis egressa clamavit, dicens ei: Miserere mei, Domine fili David: filia mea male a daemonio vexatur. Qui non respondit ei verbum. Et accedentes discipuli ejus rogabant eum dicentes: Dimitte eam: quia clamat post nos. Ipse autem respondens ait: Non sum missus nisi ad oves, quae perierunt domus Israel. At illa venit, et adoravit eum, dicens: Domine, adiuva me.
At that time: Jesus went from thence, and retired into the coasts of Tyre and Sidon. And behold a woman of Canaan who came out of those coasts, crying out, said to him: Have mercy on me, O Lord, thou son of David: my daughter is grieviously troubled by the devil. Who answered her not a word. And his disciples came and besought him, saying: Send her away, for she crieth after us: And he answering, said: I was not sent but to the sheep that are lost of the house of Israel. But she came and adored him, saying: Lord, help me. Who answering, said: It is not good to take the bread of the children, and to cast it to the dogs. But she said: Yea, Lord; for the whelps also eat of the crumbs that fall from the table of their masters. Then Jesus answering, said to her: O woman, great is thy faith: be it done to thee as thou wilt: and her daughter was cured from that hour.

[Moses, before seeing the glory of the Lord, fasted forty days and forty nights.]

In those days the Lord said to Moses: Come up to Me into the mount, and be there: and I will give thee tables of stone, and the law, and the commandments which I have written: that thou mayst teach them. Moses rose up, and his minister Josue: and Moses going up into the mount of God, said to the ancients: Wait ye here till we return to you. You have Aaron and Hur with you: if any question shall arise, you shall refer it to them. And when Moses was gone up, a cloud covered the mount. And the glory of the Lord dwelt upon Sinai, covering it with a cloud six days: and the seventh day He called him out of the midst of the cloud. And the sight of the glory of the Lord was like a burning fire upon the top of the mount, in the eyes of the children of Israel. And Moses, entering into the midst of the cloud, went up into the mountain: and he was there forty days, and forty nights.

[Elias, before walking unto Horeb and seeing the glory of the Lord, fasted forty days and forty nights in the desert.]

In those days, Elias came to Bersabee of Juda, and left his servant there, and he went forward, one day's journey into the desert. And when he was there, and sat under a juniper tree, he requested for his soul that he might die, and said: It is enough for me, Lord, take away my soul: for I am no better than my fathers. And he cast himself down, and slept in the shadow of the juniper tree: and behold an angel of the Lord touched him, and said to him: Arise and eat. He looked, and behold there was at his head a hearth cake, and a vessel of water: and he ate and drank, and he fell asleep again. And the angel of the Lord came again the second time, and touched him, and said to him: Arise, eat: for thou hast yet a great way to go. And he arose, and ate, and drank, and walked in the strength of that food forty days and forty nights, unto the mount of God, Horeb.

Deliver me from my necessities, O Lord; see my abjection and my labor; and forgive me all my sins. V.: To Thee, O Lord, have I lifted up my soul: in Thee, O my God, I put my trust, let me not be ashamed; neither let my enemies laugh at me. V.: For non of them that wait on Thee shall be confounded; let all them be confounded that do vain things.

† Sequentia sancti Evangelii secundum Matthaeum.
[We are all called to take the place of the rebellious Jews: let us make ourselves worthy of the fruits of penance as did the men of Ninive, who listened to the voice of Jonas, and the queen of Saba, who came from her country to learn the wisdom of Solomon. We shall share hen in the resurrection of Our Savior Jesus Christ, symbolized by the prophet Jonas, who, after remaining three days in the whale's belly, was vomited out alive.]

Tunc dicit: Revertar in domum meam, unde exivi.
At that time: some of the scribes and Pharisees answered Jesus, saying: Master we would see a sign from Thee. Who answering said to them: An evil and adulterous generation seeketh a sign: and a sign shall not be given it, but the sign of Jonas the prophet. For as Jonas was in the whale's belly three days and three nights: so shall the Son of man be in the heart of the earth three days and three nights. The men of Ninive shall rise in judgment with this generation, and shall condemn it: because they did penance at the preaching of Jonas. And behold a greater than Jonas here. The queen of the south shall rise in judgment with this generation, and shall condemn it: because she came from the ends of the earth to hear the wisdom of Solomon, and behold a greater than Solomon here. And when an unclean spirit is gone out of a man he walketh through dry places seeking rest, and findeth none. Then he saith: I will return into my house from whence I came out. And coming he findeth it empty, swept, and garnished. Then he goeth, and taketh with him seven other spirits more wicked than himself, and they enter in and dwell there: and the last state of that man is made worse than the first. So shall it be also to this wicked generation. As he was yet speaking to the multitudes, behold his mother and his brethren stood without, seeking to speak to him. And one said unto him: Behold thy mother and thy brethren stand without, seeking thee. But he answering him that told him, said: Who is my mother, and who are my brethren? And stretching forth his hand towards his disciples, he said: Behold my mother and my brethren. For whosoever shall do the will of my Father, that is in heaven, he is my brother, and sister, and mother.

COLLECT.--Look down, O Lord, upon Thy household, and grant that our minds, which are chastened by the mortification of the flesh, may shine before Thee with desire of Thee. Through our Lord Jesus Christ, Thy Son, who liveth and reigneth with Thee in the unity of the Holy Ghost, God . . .

EPISTLE ¤ Isaias 55. 6-11
Lesson from the Prophet Isaias.
[Lent is a time of fast and prayer and good works: Lent is the time when God is near to us and eager to forgive us, if we put aside our evil thoughts and forsake the way of sin.]

In those days the prophet Isaias spoke, saying: Seek ye the Lord while He may be found: call upon Him while He is near. Let the wicked forsake his way and the unjust man his thoughts, and let him return to the Lord, and He will have mercy on him; and to our God, for He is bountiful to forgive. For My thoughts are not your thoughts: nor your ways My ways, saith the Lord. For, as the heavens are exalted above the earth, so are My ways exalted above your ways, and My thoughts above your thoughts. As the rain and the snow come down from heaven, and return no more thither, but soak the earth and water it, and make it to spring, and give seed to the sower and bread to the eater; so shall My word be, which shall go forth from My mouth; it shall not return to Me void, but it shall do whatsoever I please, and shall prosper in the things for which I sent it: saith the Lord almighty.

GRADUAL ¤ Ps. 140. 2

Dirigatur oratio mea sicut incensum in conspectu tuo, Domine. V.: Elevatio manuum mearum sacrificium vespertinum.
Let my prayer be directed as incense in Thy sight, O Lord. V.: The lifting up of my hands as evening sacrifice.

GOSPEL ¤ Matth. 21. 10-17
† Continuation of the holy Gospel according to St. Matthew.
[We must cast sin out from our minds and hearts, as Jesus cast out the sellers from the Temple, and receive the teaching of Christ with the simplicity of children of God.]

At that time, when Jesus was come into Jerusalem, the whole city was moved, saying: Who is this? And the people said: This is Jesus, the prophet from Nazareth of Galilee. And Jesus went into the temple of God, and cast out all them that sold and bought in the temple, and overthrew the tables of the money changers and the chairs of them that sold doves; and He saith to them: It is written: My house shall be called the house of prayer; but you have made it a den of thieves. And there came to Him the blind and the lame in the temple; and He healed them. And the chief priests and scribes seeing the wonderful things that He did, and the children crying in the temple, and saying: Hosanna to the Son of David, were moved with indignation, and said to Him: Hearest Thou what these say? And Jesus said to them: Yea, have you never read: Out of the mouth of infants and of sucklings Thou hast perfected praise? And leaving them, He went out of the city into Bethania, and remained there.

OFFERTORY ¤ Ps. 30. 15-16

In te speravi, Domine: dixi: Tu es Dominus meus, in manibus tuis tempora mea.
I have put my trust in Thee, O Lord. I said: Thou art my God, my times are in Thy hands.

SECRET.--We beseech Thee, O Lord, be appeased by the gifts offered to Thee: and defend us from all danger. Through our Lord Jesus Christ, Thy Son, who liveth . . .

PREFACE
Preface for Lent

It is truly meet and just, right and for our salvation, that we should at all times, and in all places, give thanks unto Thee, O holy Lord, Father almighty, everlasting God; Who by this bodily fast, dost curb our vices, dost lift up our minds and bestow on us strength and rewards; through Christ our Lord. Through whom the Angels praise Thy Majesty, the Dominations worship it, the Powers stand in awe. The Heavens and the heavenly hosts together with the blessed Seraphim in triumphant chorus unite to celebrate it. Together with these we entreat Thee that Thou mayest bid our voices also to be admitted while we say with lowly praise:

COMMUNION ¤ Ps. 4. 2

Cum invocarem te, exaudisti me, Deus justitiae meae: in tribulatione dilatasti mihi: miserere mihi, Domine, et exaudi orationem meam.
When I called upon Thee, Thou didst hear me, O God of my justice; when I was in distress, Thou hast enlarged me; have mercy on me, O Lord, and hear my prayer.

POSTCOMMUNION.--We beseech Thee, O almighty God, that we may obtain the effect of that salvation, of which we have received the pledge in these Mysteries. Through our Lord Jesus Christ, Thy Son, who liveth and reigneth with Thee in the unity of the Holy Ghost . . .

PRAYER OVER THE PEOPLE

Let us pray. -- Bow down your heads before God.
May our prayers ascend to Thee, O Lord: and do Thou drive away all wickedness from Thy Church. Through our Lord Jesus Christ, Thy Son, who liveth . . .
